Election 2014: Hospital Sales Tax On Ballot In LeFlore County POTEAU

In early Spring, following the shutdown of EOMC's surgery and obstetrics departments, EOMC's Board and Administration were faced with what seemed to be an insurmountable financial problem.  Having been told "no" by all possible lending sources, the decision was made to approach Leflore County Commissioners to "allow the people to decide the fate of EOMC with a vote on a sales tax for funding facility renovations and operations." The Commissioners agreed, and today we have the results of our citizens' voices.

Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center CEO Resigns

Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center CEO, Terry Buckner has resigned from the organization, announced EOMC Board of Trustees Chairman, Aud Balentine.  Buckner has taken a position in Colorado and his last day will be December 31, 2012.  Buckner began his tenure in 2000 as CFO and was later promoted to CEO in March of 2005.

State acceptance of federal dollars for health care would be a win-win for our LeFlore County

Each year, Oklahoma hospitals absorb more than $500 million in unreimbursed cost caring for uninsured and underinsured patients. Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center provided $3.4 million in “free” care to our local citizens last year. Unfortunately, as we all know these costs are not really “free,” but are passed on to all of us in the form of higher premiums for individuals and businesses.
