EOMC purchases Point of Care computer system
At
their regular monthly meeting, The LeFlore County Hospital Authority Board of
Trustees unanimously approved the purchase of a Point of Care computer system
for all patient care areas in Eastern
Oklahoma Medical
Center. The system provides each nurse with a
computer that will be used for virtually everything the nurse currently has to
write by hand. The system’s hardware is
connected by the hospital’s wireless network and all of the patient’s
information is stored on the hospitals main computer system. “This is what the
general public thinks of when they talk about a hospital computer system,” said
Terry Buckner, CEO. “This system will
improve patient safety throughout our hospital and streamline how we obtain and
use patient information gathered by our nursing staff, which in turn will
provide our staff more time to spend with our patients” he continued.
This
system also ties together the hospitals pharmacy, laboratory and radiology
systems and stores all of the patient’s clinical information in a central
location. “This is an exciting purchase
and I am glad we are financially able to do this,” stated G.R. Fulsom, Chairman
of the Board of Trustees. “It is a
$300,000 upgrade to our existing system and will be well worth the money” he
continued. The Point of care computer
system will be installed in August.
Eastern Oklahoma Medical
Center is accredited by the Joint
Commission on accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. The hospital is licensed to operate 82 acute
care beds and has an average daily census of 28 patients. The LeFlore County Commissioners, Freddie
Cox, Lance Smith and Carroll Rogers appoint the Board of Trustees to the
Hospital Authority. Members of the Board of Trustees are G.R. (Rod) Fulsom,
